What is bootfitting?
Bootfitting is the practice of adjusting boots to fit you perfectly. With bootfitting the common practice is “punching” and shaping the boots to emulate the shape of your feet. Think of it as getting a new pair of hard leather hiking boots that you need to break in for them to shape to your feet and get comfortable – this is what a bootfitter does to your boot that doesn’t otherwise soften or change shape over time.
SKIBOOTGUY offers consultations for people that already have a pair of ski boots, and for people looking to buy new ones. I can shape and adjust new and old boots, and offer custom insoles and new liners.
Who is it for?
Regardless of you being a complete beginner or a professional skier, good boots is the most important piece of your equipment. The boots should fit tight overall without being too tight in certain areas that can cause pain or discomfort. You should be comfortable skiing and feel well connected to your skis to have full control, regardless of level and experience. Are you a snowboarder who uses hard-shell boots? I can help you with them as well.
Questions and answers
What does it cost?
Please have a look at the pricing list under:
Can I fit my boots without booking a consultation?
If you are sure of what you need, then yes. It is however recommended to do a consultation to identify the source of the issue.
How old can my boots be?
If you want to fit your old boots then please bring them to the shop and I’ll have a look and see if there is anything I can do for you. With enough wear and tear it might be a good idea to replace them, but I can usually do a lot with old boots as well. It’s not recommended to use ski boots older than 5-7 years. After that the plastic is degraded
and has lost most of its original characteristics.
How long does it take to fit boots?
Molding a liner takes about 30 minutes and requires you to be in the shop. Punching and other adjustments can be done without you present, and will be done as quickly as possible. I try to have the boots ready for you within a couple of days.
How long is the delivery for new boots?
If you are looking to purchase new boots, I’ll place the order for the model and sizes that I recommend the same day as our consultation. The brands ship them straight away and should be in the shop after about a week. We then schedule a follow-up where you try the boots and I fit them for you.
Can you repair broken boots?
Depends on the situation. I can order spare parts if needed.
Do I need to bring my skis?
Only if you are purchasing new boots and/or bindings.
A lot of people often have boots that are too big, and the bindings will then need to be adjusted to the new size.
Do you serve coffee?
Absolutely!
About SKIBOOTGUY
My name is Arvid and I’m a passionate Swedish skier who found home in Tromsø. I know very well what it’s like to ski with bad fitting boots and slipping and sliding around in them instead of being in control of your skis. I also know a thing or two of what it’s like to be in pain for a full day of skiing – it really takes the joy out of it.
Skiing should be fun and enjoyable through and through – and that requires good boots! It was obvious that Tromsø lacked this service, something so important for all skiers, from beginners to pros. I’ve trained at Sole Bootlab in Chamonix and at Alpingaraget in Stockholm, and I’m so excited to bring this much needed service to Tromsø.
Please stop by the shop to book an appointment or drop in. I start by a consultation and look at your feet and discuss you skiing level and style and can from there help you order the boots that will fit you. When they are delivered to the shop we try different sizes and I then help you mold and shape your boots to fit you perfectly. It’s also possible to come to the shop with old boots, and from there we do a consultation and then I help you fit them as well as possible to your needs.
